Dionne Sims (she/her) is a queer professional from Minneapolis, MN with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications and Media Studies. In 2020, she left her career in tech and founded Black Garnet Books, an independent bookstore and community space in Saint Paul, MN that focuses on uplifting authors and artists of color. Once established, Dionne sold the bookstore in 2024 to a community member and devoted her time to teaching new bookstore owners how to run their shops as an instructor with the Professional Booksellers School. Currently, she is the Advancement Associate at PFund Foundation. You’ll likely spot her at indie coffee shops around the cities reading a book, and if you can’t find her, she’s at home with her dog, Nova, playing video games.
