Canopy Medical Clinic was established in February 2020 to address critical gaps in sexual healthcare and affirming healthcare for LGBTQ+ people in North Dakota, particularly transgender and gender-diverse individuals. At the time of our founding, North Dakota had virtually no accessible gender-affirming care providers, leaving transgender and gender-diverse individuals facing significant barriers to medically necessary care, including lack of knowledgeable providers, discrimination, and the need to travel hundreds of miles for services. What began as a small clinic with two staff members has grown rapidly in response to overwhelming community demand. Today, Canopy Medical Clinic serves as a trusted regional provider of gender-affirming medical care, reproductive health, and mental health services, with a strong reputation for compassionate, trauma-informed, and identity-affirming care. We currently provide care to individuals residing in North Dakota, Minnesota, and South Dakota via in-person services, telehealth appointments, and both in-person and online support groups. Our expansion reflects both the critical unmet need in our region and the life-changing impact of accessible, affirming healthcare for LGBTQ+ communities
