One Voice Mixed Chorus

One Voice Mixed Chorus logo

Founded in 1988, One Voice Mixed Chorus is Minnesota’s only – and one of the nation’s largest – lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and straight allies mixed chorus. One Voice’s 125 singers come from diverse cultural backgrounds and range in age from 14 to 83. The chorus is comprised of 70% gay, lesbian and bisexual individuals, and 10% straight allies. One Voice’s demographic is changing: over 80 singers audition each year to fill new openings in the chorus. New members tend to be younger and include transgender and nonbinary identified singers, who now make up approximately 20% of the Chorus. One Voice includes members from all socioeconomic backgrounds and persons with a variety of mobility and mental health challenges. One Voice singers represent the spectrum of musical training: some performers have been classically trained in choral music while others are aficionados who do not read music.
