One Iowa was established in 2005 as an advocacy nonprofit fighting for marriage equality in Iowa. Once Iowa achieved marriage equality in 2009, One Iowa began to shift its advocacy to educating Iowans on the LGBTQ+ community and ensuring that LGBTQ+ Iowans were given dignity and respect at every stage of their lives. Today, One Iowa seeks to be a resource to LGBTQ+ Iowans through healthcare and workplace advocacy, education, and leadership development.
