Mamá Papaya, a 501c(3) organization founded and led by award winning queer immigrant filmmakers and mentors, nurtures and serves the next generations of storytellers in film from BIPOC and LGTBQAI2S+ communities in Minnesota. Since 2021, we have provided mentorship, grants, equipment, resources, and creative programs rooted in the values of care, education, cultural preservation, solidarity, community, and healing. Beyond the immediate impact on filmmakers and creatives, Mamá Papaya contributes to the greater public with opportunities for community to step in front of the camera and tell share their stories in films. We also offer accessible public screening events, an annual festival, and spaces for community building that heal and represent vital underrepresented cultural narratives.
