Industrial Arts Mentorship for All (IAMA) was established in November 2023 to expand access to industrial arts education for youth with marginalized identities. Based in North Minneapolis, IAMA provides hands-on technical training and professional development in the industrial arts, centering under-represented youth who may not otherwise have access to these skills. Through mentorship-driven programs, IAMA enhances confidence, builds unique technical abilities, and supports participants in creating new pathways for creative and professional growth. IAMA has offered an annual Pride program for the past two years, serving queer youth ages 12-18. The program introduces industrial arts skills while supporting participants in designing and building sculptural work that reflects their lived experiences and identities. The program culminates in a public open-studio event during Twin Cities Pride, where youth exhibit their work and demonstrate skills in IAMA’s North Minneapolis studio. This event draws approximately 120 attendees annually and fosters visibility, belonging, and creative empowerment for LGBTQ+ youth.
