SUMMARY:Freddie: Break Free - Ballet Co. Laboratory
DESCRIPTION:Fri\, Apr 10\, 2026 Sun\, Apr 12\, 2026 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe stage is set for Ballet Co.Laboratory’s Freddie: Break Free—a groundbreaking ballet that explores the life of rock ‘n’ roll’s most iconic showman\, Freddie Mercury. \nPremiering April 10–12\, 2026\, at the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts in Saint Paul\, MN. This production\, created by Ballet Co.Laboratory—a queer-founded\, queer-led ballet organization— tells the life story of Freddie Mercury through dance and the music of Queen. The cast will feature 11 professional dancers\, a 5-member Queen cover band\, choral musicians\, and community members living with HIV / AIDS. More than a biopic\, this narrative ballet will piece together 19 of Queen’s timeless hits to help tell the life story of Freddie\, a multi-dimensional artist who not only changed the history of music\, but also greatly impacted the lives of the queer community and those living with HIV/AIDS. Through three public performances\, audiences will not only witness Freddie’s musical & medical journey\, but will also experience a broader history of the AIDS epidemic. \nLearn more and get tickets: https://www.balletcolaboratory.org/freddie-break-free

SUMMARY:Theater in the Round's Mini Queer Series - “Conscience” Opening Night
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, March 27\, 2026 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheater in the Round is proud to celebrate the ways in which theatre has been a welcoming space for Queer people and in their 74th season 3 shows featuring Queer stories are running in succession from 1/16/26 – 4/19/26. This “Queer mini-season” is a testament to the theaters commitment to highlighting marginalized voices\, especially during a time of great political and cultural attacks on Queer rights in America. These shows represent a range of expressions for what it means to tell a Queer story- from Queerness being part of an essential narrative to Queerness simply being 1 part of the complex identities of the humanity of a character. \nMargaret Chase Smith was a woman of firsts: In 1940\, she was the first woman elected by the state of Maine to serve in Congress; nine years later she was the first woman the state elected to the Senate. And in 1950\, she became the first senator to stand on the Senate floor and publicly rebuke Senator Joseph McCarthy…despite the costs. Through a powerful subplot exploring the Lavender Scare—McCarthy’s ruthless persecution of LGBTQ+ individuals in government—the story follows a queer character navigating the dangerous reality faced by LGBTQ+ politicians during this dark chapter of American history. An inspirational true story about a remarkable woman and the queer voices that risked everything during an era of fear and repression \n Tickets Available 2/10/26
