September is a time of chilly mornings and turning leaves, the excitement and anxieties of returning to school, and bittersweet transitions.

PFund Foundation is experiencing our own transition. It is with great sadness that we announce that our Executive Director, A. Charlene Leach has resigned and will be leaving PFund Foundation. We admire her leadership and her hard work on behalf of the organization. Charlene has held a clear vision for the future of our organization, and we are seeing the results of her work in the positive ways which it has impacted our community.

Charlene doubled our budget and expanded our network of funders – both locally and nationally. She skillfully managed PFund Foundation’s rapid response to the pandemic by quickly securing funding for emergency COVID-19 relief grants directed to individuals, small businesses, and nonprofits in our LGBTQIA community. During her time with PFund Foundation, Charlene truly gave the foundation firm legs to stand on for the future.

We have been grateful for the two and a half years of working with – and learning from – Charlene’s passionate leadership. She has also been our visionary leader through planning and strategy, as we have expanded our budget and outreach. And now, we must lean into the work and carry forward. Thank you for your many contributions, Charlene. Charlene’s last day will be Friday, September 25.

We are pleased to announce that Aaron Zimmerman, CFRE will assume Interim Executive Director responsibilities of the organization

PFund Foundation will continue the work as a vital resource and community builder for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and allied communities by providing grants and scholarships, developing leaders and inspiring giving. PFund Foundation’s mission is important, and we cannot rest.

Aaron comes into this role with more than 10 years of non-profit development experience, having raised millions of dollars for a number of LGBTQ and social justice organizations around the Twin Cities. He is currently serving as PFund Foundation’s Director of Development.

Previously, Aaron has provided leadership during transition as the Interim Executive Director of the Red Ribbon Ride and supported the expansion of grant and individual funding at organizations such as Domestic Abuse Project, Family Tree Clinic, and Twin Cities Public Television. He currently serves as a board member of Twin Cities Quorum, North Star Roller Derby, and CloseKnit as Board Chair. He is active in the LGBTQ community, has received his MA in Philanthropy and Development from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, and was born and raised in the upper Midwest.

In an effort to preserve continuity, organizational knowledge, and strong relationships, the Board quickly came to the decision of bringing Aaron into this role. The strengths of the organization will remain our focus and we will continue to build on our Elevated Priorities, provide scholarships LGBTQIA individuals across the lifespan and further expand our Better Outcomes Initiative.
